How to Make a Pinup Girl Halloween Costume

Posted on: August 18, 2011

Want to dazzle your friends with a sexy pin-up girl costume this Halloween? Pin-ups from the World War II era, 1940's and 1950's were sassy, cute, and charming vixens. Whether you want to look like Betty Page or sport a surfer-girl look, this guide will show you the basics on how to make a Pinup Girl Halloween Costume.

When choosing the perfect outfit for your pinup ensemble, be sure to keep the weather in mind. Bikinis and tiny one-peices may be great if you live in a warmer climate, but if you live in northern areas you may regret opting for skimpier garb. If you live in a colder part of the country, don't fret--there are plenty of cute pinup fashions that can keep you warm!

Step 1: Build the Pinup Girl Outfit

You have plenty of options here. Just be sure to avoid more modern styles, and choose clothing that looks like it came from the 30's-50's. Thrift stores are great for pinup wardrobe shopping! Mix and match some of the following for your outfit:

Step 2: Pinup Hair

Pinup girl hair is usually long and curled. If you are going for a very specific look, such as Betty Page, and you don't already have the hair type to match, a wig may be your best bet.

  • If you opt to use your natural locks, do a web search for some old pinup girl photos. Then get hold of a brush, curling iron and plenty of hairspray to achieve the right look and hold it into place. You may want to practice your style before Halloween, to be sure that you are comfortable creating the style.

Step 3: Pinup Makeup

Pinup girls wear plenty of makeup! To look convincing, you will want to apply the following:

  • Foundation or base
  • Blue or other light eyeshadow
  • Eyebrow pencil
  • Eyeliner
  • False eyelashes
  • Mascara
  • Pink blush
  • Plenty of face powder
  • Pink or red lipstick
